Top 5 Tips to Combat Debit Card Fraud:

  1. Lock your debit card if there is questionable activity on the account. If you’re suspicious about fraudulent activity, temporarily lock your debit card in Digital Banking and contact us at 866.327.9199. If your Meridian Bank card has been lost, stolen or compromised, you have 24/7 access to manage your card through Digital Banking or by calling the number above for assistance.
  2. Set your own spending limits/alerts.  Adjust your daily spend limits to reflect the level you’re comfortable with. Limits can be lowered below the standard defaults to closely monitor card activity. You can also set alert preferences for balance, transaction and deposit updates.
  3. Block transactions by merchant or transaction type. Prevent debit card fraud by blocking certain transactions before they come through. Choose from options like international merchants, in store or eCommerce purchases, ATM/cash withdrawals and other criteria.
  4. Take advantage of the Mobile Wallet. Adding a debit card to your phone’s Mobile Wallet gives you an additional layer of security. Using the Mobile Wallet during a transaction protects your PIN number and card data through encryption, creating a more secure payment.
  5. Be cautious of messages that induce fear or urgency. Fraudsters will use these tactics in their communications to pressure you into sharing valuable information that could be compromised. Do not give your debit card number or any sensitive information away unless you first verify the requestor using separate, known contact information.
