Security & Fraud Awareness Tips: Online Safety

5 Tips to Stay Safe Online:

  1. Use strong passwords and a password manager. Passwords should include at least 16 characters, upper and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols, and they should differ for each account. Since keeping track of multiple passwords for all your accounts gets tricky, use a password manager to store them for you. Password managers can also identify when you have weak or reused passwords and help you generate stronger ones.
  2. Recognize and report phishing.  Common signs of a phishing email include urgent or alarming language, requests for personal or financial information, poor writing or misspellings, and incorrect email addresses or links. If possible, report any phishing attempts to your organization’s security team, and do not click on any links before you delete the email.
  3. Implement multifactor authentication (MFA) on all available systems. If not already in place, we strongly recommend setting up MFA on applicable platforms as a more secure method to authorize access. MFA requires users to present more information than just a password, making it a strong safeguard against hackers and fraud.
  4. Always keep software updated. Install the most recent software updates for devices and apps to ensure you are protected against the latest threats. Turn on automatic updates in your device or app’s security settings so the latest enhancements are made as soon as they are available.
  5. Invest in cybersecurity resources for your company. Is your company prepared to stand against any cybercrime event that may occur? Consider investing in resources like cybersecurity insurance to protect you from time-consuming and costly incidents..
