Security & Fraud Awareness Tips

Four things your company can do today to protect your accounts:

  1. Make sure Meridian is notified of key personnel changes. If changes have occurred, make sure to check who had account access and notify us if that person is no longer employed at your company so we can remove their access.
  2. Designate someone to review account activity while you are away.  It’s important to have back-up personnel in place to login and monitor daily account activity, especially during summer vacation season. If you are responsible for monitoring activity and have an upcoming vacation, make sure appropriate personnel have been approved with access to view activity.
  3. Implement multifactor authentication (MFA) on all available systems. If not already in place, we strongly recommend setting up MFA on applicable platforms as a more secure method to authorize access. MFA requires two out of three types of credentials, making it a strong safeguard against hackers and fraud.
  4. Follow verification procedures when responding to high risk email requests. If a suspicious email request comes through from a customer, colleague or vendor, do not take action until first verifying that it is legitimate. Use known, alternate channels, e.g. the contact’s phone number from your address book, to confirm if the person sent the request. Do NOT use the phone number listed in the email.

For business banking customers, Meridian offers Positive Pay to prevent check or ACH fraud.

Upload a list of checks or ACH’s for matching to control unauthorized activity. If a payment presented doesn’t match what is on your list, you’ll decide if you want to pay or return it. If you’re interested in setting up Positive Pay for your business, fill out the form below to get started.
