Security & Fraud Awareness Tips: Sensitive Info Change Requests

3 Things to Keep in Mind about Sensitive Info Change Requests

  1. Never accept a change in payment via email. If you or someone in your company receives an email with instructions to change payment or other sensitive information, do not respond. This could be a phishing attempt that may result in hacking your account and committing ACH or wire fraud.
  2. Verify the identity of the sender.  Instead of responding via email to the change request, call the requesting party immediately using separate, known contact information (do not use the phone number listed in the email) to verify that the email is legitimate.
  3. Remember that email is never a secure form of communication. You should not take any action based on email instructions alone.

For business banking customers, Meridian offers Positive Pay to prevent check or ACH fraud.

Upload a list of checks or ACH’s for matching to control unauthorized activity. If a payment presented doesn’t match what is on your list, you’ll decide if you want to pay or return it. If you’re interested in setting up Positive Pay for your business, fill out the form below to get started.
